The Council
The Sheffield Youth Orchestra Council is essential to the existence of the orchestra. It is made up of people who are interested in SYO – parents, friends, past players and representatives of the orchestra itself, who meet approximately 9 times per year with the aim of organizing:
* Concerts – booking venues, programmes, tickets, refreshments etc
* Fund raising – SYO receives no outside funding, it is a charity and exists only by patronage and sponsorship
* Arranging residential weekends
* Recruiting new members
* Organising publicity
* Rehearsal help, coffee rotas and appointing a new conductor when necessary
* Ensuring the continuity of the musical life of SYO
We are always in need of new council members. The duties are not onerous but do need performing in order to support the orchestra. The more people who are involved, the less there is for each one to do. If you are interested and would like to know more, please contact one of the existing council members who are listed below. If you feel that you cannot commit regularly, why not join our coffee rota or alternatively offer your services on concert days. Please join the council. Together we can help SYO to progress and give the playing members of Sheffield Youth Orchestra the support they deserve.
